Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will sit on the jury of the third annual Napa Valley Film Festival, which will take place from November 13th through the 17th in Napa, California. Grohl will judge the category of U.S. Narrative Short Films, along with fellow juror Ben Bray, an award-winning actor and stunt coordinator. Leading the jury as its president will be Joe Carnahan, director of films like The A-Team and The Grey.

Grohl got involved with the film industry earlier this year with the release of Sound City, the documentary he produced and directed about the legendary California studio where many classic rock albums were made. He told us that he originally intended to make a short film about the studio's famous recording desk: "That's where the whole thing started and I wanted to pay tribute to that by making a short film. So I reached out to a friend who had a camera and edits things, and I said, 'Let's make a little YouTube clip that'll be a sidebar to the 20th anniversary of (Nirvana album) Nevermind. And it turned into a f***ing movie (laughs)."

The festival's executive and artistic director, Marc Lhormer, said in a statement, "We are thrilled and honored to have the jury line-up that we do . . . All of the jurors exude passion, experience, and excitement for the film industry and contribute their own knowledge and diverse background to the festival."

Other juried categories include U.S. Narrative Features, U.S. Documentary Features and Short Films, and Animated Short Films.

Among the other jurists are film distribution executives, journalists, filmmakers, producers and activists.

The festival's full program will be announced on October 7th and is anticipated to include more than 125 films.

Grohl told a British radio station last week that Foo Fighters have finished writing their eighth studio album and plan to record it "in a way that no one's ever done before." The disc is likely to come out in 2014.
