Metallica's new 3D IMAX movie, Metallica Through The Never, will have its world premiere on Monday, September 9th at the Toronto International Film Festival. The group said in a statement, "Now in its 38th year, Toronto International Film Festival is the most respected and prominent film festival in North America with many major films making their worldwide debuts there . . . Through The Never will screen in the special 'IMAX at TIFF' section and we'll be on hand for the red-carpet premiere, to introduce the film and will spend some time in Toronto to chat with the press."

Drummer Lars Ulrich told us that he hopes viewers will enjoy the movie without hearing too much about it beforehand: "I hope that people will get off on the uniqueness of it because it's a real bitch to try to describe this thing and to try to sort of articulate what it is. It's very unique, and I think the hardcore Metallica fans will get off on it, and I think that there will be a significant amount of film fans that will get off on the uniqueness of it. I certainly hope that. You've never seen a movie quite like this, and hopefully that's a good thing (laughs)."

Following the festival, Metallica Through The Never will begin an exclusive one-week engagement in IMAX theaters on September 27th before expanding into additional theaters on October 4th.

The film, a blend of concert movie and fictional narrative, stars Dane DeHaan as a member of Metallica's road crew who is sent on a mysterious mission while the band performs at a sold-out arena and events on the streets outside grow more and more bizarre.

The movie was directed by Nimrod Antal, whose previous films include Vacancy and Predators.

The concert sequences for the movie were shot in August 2012 at two shows in Vancouver, Canada and feature a stage containing elements of many of Metallica's previous live productions from the past 30 years.

Metallica is currently on a run of Asian shows that ends in Indonesia on August 25th. The only other live date on Metallica's schedule for the rest of 2013 is September 19th in Rio.
