Foo Fighters are well on their way to making their eighth studio album, according to a new interview with Dave Grohl done by a U.K. radio station. Asked about the band's progress on a new disc, Grohl revealed, "Well, I'll tell you, we have been in our studio writing and in the past few weeks, we've written an album. And we are going to make this album in a way that no one's ever done before, and we're pretty excited about it."

Grohl admitted that the band hasn't started recording yet and suggested that a 2014 release date is likely, adding, "It's a little way off -- it's not ready to happen right now, but I think next year is going to be a really big year for the Foo Fighters without question. It's going to be great, I can't wait."

The Foos made their last album, 2011's Wasting Light, in Grohl's garage, recording to analog tape instead of digital hard drives. Grohl told us then that the band purposely avoided working in a modern studio environment: "You know, we'd made a couple of records in the studio that we own, and it's a state-of-the-art recording facility that other bands record in, and it just seems like the right place to make an album. But the intention was to do it in a way that we've never done it, that would be special, and that would have character so it wouldn't sound like other things that we've done."

Grohl said earlier this year at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas that he had "a crazy idea of what I want to do with the next record and how we record it . . . It won't be a conventional record."

Wasting Light was Foo Fighters' second consecutive effort to debut at Number One on the Billboard album chart.

Grohl spent much of the first half of 2013 promoting the documentary he directed, Sound City, while also playing shows with the Sound City Players, the rotating cast of musicians who were interviewed for the film.
