Rob Zombie has put out the call to his fans to be part of a video for his cover of the Grand Funk Railroad classic, "We're An American Band." He wants fans to submit footage of themselves rocking out to his version of the song, which is featured on his latest album, Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor. The posted announcement added, "We want singers, bands, cheerleaders, athletes, hard-working, hard-drinking, hard-rocking people! Your submission just might end up in a special fan version of the 'American Band' video created by Rob Zombie."
We asked Zombie how he decided to cover the 1973 track: "We wanted a cover song to play, but I wanted a song that was huge, but where the band maybe wasn't as well remembered. Even though Grand Funk Railroad were obviously a gigantic band, they're not like as remembered with younger kids as, say, Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath, I don't think. And you also want a song that you can relate to if you're gonna sing it every night, and we can totally relate to that song."
Zombie's fifth solo effort, Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor was released in April and entered the Billboard album chart at Number Seven with first-week sales of 34,000 copies.
Zombie will headline the 2013 Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, which kicks off this Saturday (June 29th) in San Bernardino, California.
