Skillet has premiered a new song called "Not Gonna Die" at the website of newspaperUSA Today. The track is taken from Rise, the band's ninth studio effort, which is due out on June 25th. Skillet previously released the songs "Sick Of It," "American Noise" and the title track, all of which reached either Number One or Two on the iTunes Rock Songs chart. "Sick Of It" has just cracked the Top 15 on the Active Rock radio chart.
The new disc follows up the band's 2009 album Awake, which debuted at Number Two on the Billboardalbum chart and featured the rock hits "Awake And Alive" and "Monster." Frontman John Cooper told us that he had initially hoped to have a new album out sooner: "The problem, which is a really good thing, is that Skillet got to so many brand new people with 'Monster' that we just kept playing and we kept getting tours after tours, and finding out there were so many people that had never seen us play. 2010, we were Billboard's Number 7th hardest working band in the world, and it's just been non-stop. So yeah, I thought we'd have a record out literally 15 months ago."
Skillet will perform "Sick Of It" on the July 11th edition of Conan.
Rise is the Christian act's first concept album, with Cooper saying that it tells the story of "a basic everyday American teenager coming to grips with the all the terrible things happening in the world . . . It's about finding faith and looking for a positive way out of these many messes in life today."
Skillet will hit the road with Shinedown on the upcoming Carnival Of Madness tour, which kicks off on August 13th Cleveland. The tour will also feature Papa Roach, In This Moment and We As Human.
