Volbeat has made a new song called "Room 24" available as a free download, according to Blabbermouth. The track is a collaboration with singer King Diamond of the legendary cult metal act Mercyful Fate, who like three members of Volbeat is Danish. Frontman Michael Poulsen said about the team-up, "I'm a huge fan of Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. Having King on this record is a huge privilege. Normally, it's not something he does. He wrote his own lines and it is half my lyrics and half his. It's a weird, scary story and he's the perfect person for it."
"Room 24" is taken from Volbeat's new album, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies, which arrives on Tuesday (April 9th).
Poulsen told us that the record goes off in some different directions but still sounds like Volbeat: "It's not like we changed a lot, you know. People will immediately be able to hear that it's Volbeat, but I also think they will be able to hear that something new happened when it comes to the songwriting and some of the songs, you know. We definitely pushed ourselves to the limit."
The first single from the new album is "Cape Of Our Hero."
The new disc follows up 2010's Beyond Hell/Above Heaven, which featured three Number One rock radio hits, "A Warrior's Call," "Still Counting" and "Heaven Nor Hell."
Volbeat is currently on a spring tour of North America that next stops in New York City on Tuesday.
