Halestorm frontperson Lzzy Hale got together with guitarist Slash and his touring band for the first time in 2013 last Friday (February 22nd) to jam on the Guns N' Roses classic "Out Ta Get Me." According to Loudwire, the team-up took place at the Bandit Rock Awards in Stockholm, Sweden. This isn't the first Hale has jumped onstage with the former Guns guitarist and his band, Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, to play the song -- she did the same thing last year in Holland.
Hale said at the time of that performance, "When we started the song, out of habit I went into live rock mode and kind of spaced out for a second and then went into the middle section where we were just kind of riffing with the solo and just kind of lost my mind for a second. I was like, 'What's going on? Slash is right here! He's sweating on me!' It was so cool."
Hale and Slash didn't know each other at last year's jam, but at last week's show they shared a hug at the end of the tune.
Halestorm recorded its own studio remake of "Out Ta Get Me" for its 2011 covers EP, ReAniMate. Hale told us why the band picked that song to cover: "What rock band has not been heavily influenced by Guns N' Roses? They were the first all-excess, down and dirty, freakin' sweat and leather band. They just captured it. They had great songs and great energy and a crazy lead singer, so (laughs)...you know, Axl Rose has always been one of my favorite singers."
Halestorm, which won the Grammy last month for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance, will return to the U.S. to begin the HardDrive Live Tour with Bullet For My Valentine, starting April 12th in Denver.
