Denmark's Volbeat has revealed that its new album, Outlaw Gentlemen And Shady Ladies, will be released on April 9th. The band has also announced that its new guitarist is former Anthrax member Rob Caggiano, who has also acted as a producer on the new disc. Caggiano, who played with Anthrax from 2001 to 2005 and again from 2007 until last month, replaces guitarist Thomas Bredahl, who was given his walking papers in November 2011.
Frontman Michael Poulsen said, "The band is very proud and happy to announce that (Caggiano) will also be the new guitar player in Volbeat. The collaboration with Rob in the studio was so inspiring and in good spirit that we the decided to keep him. Basically we went into the studio as a three piece and came out as a whole band!"
Caggiano added, "After weeks of collaboration between Michael and I it became quite clear that we had an amazing creative chemistry together and a huge mutual respect for one another . . . When the guys asked me if I was interested in joining Volbeat the other day, my jaw just about hit the floor!"
Poulsen said that half the new album will take listeners "into the world of outlaw gunslinger stories sometime in the 1800s . . . The listener will hear inspiration from old classic spaghetti western movies which gives you a clue to the album title and cover artwork."
Drummer Jon Larsen told us that Poulsen always has a good instinct for how he wants each Volbeat album to sound: "Michael has a pretty clear vision of what he wants on an album. He has tons of ideas, you know, for different sounding guitars, vocals, bits and pieces that will get added or get taken off again, and our producer helps out with that process a lot. But Michael has a pretty clear vision of what he wants the albums to sound like."
The new disc follows up 2010's Beyond Hell/Above Heaven, which featured three Number One rock radio hits, "A Warrior's Call," "Still Counting" and "Heaven Nor Hell." The latter song hit the top of the chart last week and is currently Number Two.
Volbeat will head out on a spring 2013 tour of North America beginning on March 6th in Dallas, with dates confirmed through mid-April.
