Yet another rock festival is back as the Carolina Rebellion expands to two days for its third year of existence, with the event taking place on May 4th and 5th at a new location, Charlotte Motor Speedway's Rock City Campgrounds in Concord, North Carolina. Alice In Chains will headline the Saturday, May 4th lineup, while Soundgarden will close the weekend out on Sunday, May 5th.
Other acts confirmed for the two days include Rise Against, Bush, Deftones, 3 Doors Down, Three Days Grace, Papa Roach, Bullet For My Valentine, Buckcherry, Volbeat, Halestorm, Asking Alexandria, All That Remains, Device (with David Draiman), Hollywood Undead, Sick Puppies, In This Moment, Escape The Fate, Pop Evil, Nonpoint, Young Guns and more.
This show and Rock On The Range in May mark the first gigs that Seattle bands Soundgarden and Alice In Chains have played together in probably two decades.
We asked Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil if he missed anything from the days of the legendary Seattle scene: "I think I miss that sort of camaraderie that was shared with other bands in the music community. I mean, that kind of started disappearing when all the bands started getting bigger and hitting the road. Of course, it is easier now with email and cell phones, but sometime in the '90s that really changed and I kind of miss that sense of community that we had in Seattle back then with a dozen or so bands."
Rise Against singer Tim McIlrath said in a statement, "After wrapping up our last U.S. tour, we were planning on recharging our batteries for awhile, but we couldn't pass up the opportunity to play with the mighty Soundgarden in what will be one of the only shows we'll play in the U.S. this year."
Volbeat's Michael Poulsen added, "In Europe and the U.S., we have enjoyed the experiences that come from being a part of the festival environment, just as the fans do. Looking forward to Carolina Rebellion!"
Carolina Rebellion is produced by the same organization that is behind other multiple-day rock festivals like Rock On The Range, Welcome To Rockville and Rocklahoma, which this year all feature similar lineups.
