Gotye, Mumford And Sons and Coldplay were among the most played acts on the Spotify streaming music service in 2012, according to Rolling Stone. Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" was the most streamed song of the year, beating out tunes from Carly Rae Jepsen and others. But Gotye's Making Mirrors album came in second to David Guetta's Nothing But The Beat at the top of the list of most streamed albums.

Coldplay was the most streamed band overall, while Mumford And Sons' second album, Babel, landed the most streams for a newly released album in 2012, with more than eight million in a single week.

Based in Sweden, Spotify offers digitally restricted streaming of selected music from a range of major and independent record labels. Launched in October 2008, Spotify had 15 million total users worldwide as of November 2012, with the service available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and many others.
