Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell was joined by the other three members of the band for a surprise six-song set during Cornell's solo show on Monday night (November 12th) at Bowery Ballroom in New York City. According to Brooklyn Vegan, the full band played six songs: "Fell On Black Days," "Blow Up The Outside World," "Black Hole Sun," "Outshined" and new tunes "Halfway There" and "Black Saturday."

Cornell set up the show as a benefit with all proceeds going to the victims of Hurricane Sandy, which devastated the New York/New Jersey area two weeks ago. There were rumors that the rest of Soundgarden would show up at the gig.

Earlier in the evening, the band played a 10-song set for the Live On Letterman webcast, while also taping an appearance on Late Show With David Letterman which aired that night.

The webcast featured several songs from the band's early days and Cornell told us that he would love to delve even deeper into the band's catalog: "We have such a long history, and a lot of songs that we either haven't played in a long time and some we never really have played much live. So we have like a huge list of things. It'll be nice at some point to just be able to play kind of anything at any time."

Soundgarden was in New York to promote the Tuesday (November 13th) arrival of King Animal, the band's first new album in 16 years.

The group was scheduled to play a full headlining show on Tuesday night at an "intimate" New York club, followed by similar gigs in Toronto on November 16th and Los Angeles on the 27th. A winter North American tour kicks off on January 18th, 2013 in Washington DC.
