The Killers release their fourth studio album on Tuesday (September 18th), titled Battle Born. The disc follows up 2008's Day & Age and is the group's first set of all-new material after taking a two-year hiatus during which several members of the band worked on solo projects. Frontman Brandon Flowers told Billboard earlier this summer that the album "is going down a few different roads, and you really get a taste of what we like as a band and what we think our strengths are," while drummer Ronnie Vannucci joked that it was the band's "difficult fourth record."

Battle Born is a motto of the Killers' home state of Nevada as well as the name of their studio in Las Vegas. Each of the band's efforts has referenced Sin City in some way, although Flowers told us a while back that he doesn't necessarily hear it in their music: "People say they hear it in our music, but I guess only outsiders could really tell, you know. I mean, I know there are bands that I listen to and I'll definitely think that I hear where they're from and things like that, but it's always from an outsider's viewpoint, I think."

The first single from Battle Born, "Runaways," is currently Number Seven on the Modern Rock chart.

Billboard called the new disc "a guitar-oriented rocker, with the influence of U2 creeping up on the Killers' ceaseless Springsteen muse."

The site's review added that Battle Born is "really a throwback rock album at heart" that "sounds absolutely willing to take its genre on its shoulders."

The Killers play a record release show in New York City on Tuesday night and a concert in Toronto this Saturday (September 22nd) before heading off to Europe. But the band will be back home for a monthlong tour beginning on November 29th in Broomfield, Colorado and ending on December 29th in Las Vegas.
