GODSMACK SINGER BERATES SECURITY FOR TREATMENT OF FAN

Godsmack singer Sully Erna berated the security team for using "unnecessary" force to tackle a fan during the band's set at the August 31st stop of the Uproar Festival tour in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. According to Blabbermouth, Godsmack had just started playing the song "Awake" when a shirtless fan jumped onstage, ran around for a couple of seconds and then placed a hat on top of Erna's head. It was at that point that a couple of security guards flew in from both sides of the stage and tackled the fan, prompting Sully to stop midway through the song and instruct the guards to back off.

In footage filmed by another fan at the show, Erna can be heard saying, "Way f***ing unnecessary, guys. Put him down. Seriously, that's crazy. The kid put a hat on me. It's okay. I don't need a f***ing medic. Let him go back and enjoy the show. It's called f***ing rock 'n' roll."

The band resumed playing a few seconds later.

With the concert industry in a slump for the past several years, Godsmack frontman Sully Erna told us a while back why he hopes people will continue to come to live shows: "Part of it really is about the fans. We need to get people remotivated again to get off their asses and shut their computers off for an hour or two every night and come to live shows. There's nothing like seeing your breath in the air, man, and being at an event. You've got to be there to feel what you feel through that experience. Yeah, you can buy it on DVD or you can catch it on TV at times, but it's nothing like being at a live event."

Also on the Uproar bill are Shinedown, Staind, Adelitas Way, P.O.D., Deuce, Redlight King and others. The tour pulls into Raleigh, North Carolina on Tuesday (September 11th).

Godsmack will also be one of the headliners on the ShipRocked 2012 cruise this year, taking off from Fort Lauderdale, Florida in late November for five days.
