Soundgarden has announced the second leg of its current North American tour in support of the band's new album, King Animal. The new round of dates begins on May 3rd in Atlantic City, New Jersey and includes stops at radio festivals and events like Rock On The Range and Carolina Rebellion. A fan club pre-sale begins on Tuesday (February 26th), with general public sale dates available from the individual venues.
The first leg of Soundgarden's current tour met with rave reviews, especially for the diverse range of songs the band played every night from throughout its career. Guitarist Kim Thayil told us how the band arrives at its set list every night: "Every day Matt (Cameron, drums) comes up with a fresh set list, and I'm not entirely sure of all the components of the decision-making that go into his final list, but I think it's probably what he feels like playing, what he wants to hear, and we've been playing some pretty long shows -- some like two-hour-and-20-minute shows."
The band filmed the final show of its recent three-night stand at the Wiltern in Los Angeles -- which closed out the tour's first leg -- for an episode of the PBS series Live From The Artists Den which will air later this year.
King Animal is Soundgarden's first album in over 15 years and features the singles "Been Away Too Long" and "By Crooked Steps." The video for the latter song has been directed by Dave Grohl.
