Godsmack singer Sully Erna will release a limited edition box set version of his 2010 solo album Avalon later this year, according to Loudwire. The set, limited to 5,000 copies, will include a full performance of the Avalon record taped at Boston's Wilbur Theatre last December, a documentary called Sully Erna: Journey To Avalon, a Making of Avalon Live featurette, a bloopers CD, the album itself, and more.
The package will also contain collectibles such as a coffee table book, a hat, a T-shirt, guitar pick, poster, incense, Erna's biography, a commemorative backstage pass, and a necklace. The entire set comes in a custom metal Erna-engraved box with a suede lining. Several copies will include golden tickets that will give the winners a chance to join Erna on all-expense paid trips to Las Vegas, Catalina Island, Napa, New York, and Boston.
Other items like autographed guitars, handmade drums, and handwritten lyrics may also turn up as prizes for those purchasing the box set.
Though an official release date has not been announced, the box set is expected in November.
Erna told us before Avalon was released why doing a solo project was important to him: "I need that vehicle to vent other kinds of music through and I can't always do it through Godsmack, because Godsmack needs to be that powerhouse, tough, raw rock band, and there's a whole other side of me that's really nice to capture and not have to worry about being judged because it's coming out on a Godsmack record."
Avalon was about as far from a Godsmack album as you could imagine, with Erna using a variety of musicians and instruments on songs that were closer to world music than the Godsmack brand of heavy rock.
Godsmack's only scheduled live appearances for the rest of 2012 will be as part of the ShipRocked music cruise, which takes off from Fort Lauderdale on November 27th for a six-day voyage.
