Last month they looked at the 30 richest drummers in rock, and now this month CelebrityNetWorth.com has compiled a list of the 30 wealthiest singers of the year. Not surprisingly, a former Beatle also topped this poll, but while Ringo Starr led the list of drummers with $300 million in his bank account, Paul McCartney wallops the rest of the vocalists' pack with $800 million tucked under his mattress.
That's $200 million more than his closest competitor, U2's Bono, and double the fortune of Jimmy Buffett at Number Three. The rest of the Top Five includes Elton John with $320 million and Mick Jagger with $305 million.
As for other veteran yet younger rockers, Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters makes it to Number 11 with $225 million -- although some of that comes from his days as drummer for Nirvana -- while Metallica's James Hetfield is at Number 16 with $175 million and Axl Rose sits at Number 17 with $150 million.
For Grohl, it's a long way from his very first job, which he told us was at a now-defunct but once important record chain: "I worked at Tower Records when I was 18, 19, something like that, in Washington D.C. It was pretty fun. I always looked at Tower as the place you could get a job if you had a really funky haircut. Maybe you could get a job at the construction warehouse, but you'd kind of rather be surrounded by music."
Other rockers on the list include the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Anthony Kiedis at Number 22 with $120 million, Ozzy Osbourne at Number 28 with $90 million and Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder at Number 30 with $80 million.
As with last month's list of drummers, the estimated wealth of each musician on the list is based on salaries, real estate holdings, divorces, record sales, royalties and endorsements, while accounting for taxes. various fees and lifestyle choices.
