Deftones have finished recording their seventh studio album and are now recording a few cover songs -- a band tradition -- to wrap things up. Frontman Chino Moreno told a Minnesota radio station, "We're actually going at the end of this month into the desert, Death Valley, we're gonna go and record for three days . . . usually at the end of the recording process we record a few covers, so we're going to go do that." It was rumored that the band was considering songs from Earth, Wind & Fire and Elvis Presley for their covers. A release date for the new album has yet to be confirmed. (Loudwire)

Death Cab For Cutie singer/songwriter Ben Gibbard has released the first single from his upcoming solo debut, Former Lives. The track, called "Teardrop Windows," is now streaming online. Gibbard will embark on a 14-date North American tour this fall, beginning on September 26th in Big Sur, California. (Antiquiet)
