Coming on September 25th will be R.E.M.'s expanded 25th Anniversary Edition of its 1987 album, Document. The album, which was the band's first to go platinum, spawned the classic tracks "Finest Worksong," "Its The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)," and "The One I Love." The new reissue features the digitally remastered original album, plus a previously unreleased concert recorded live on September 14th, 1987 in Utrecht, Holland during R.E.M.'s Work tour. The remastered original album will also be issued that day by Mobile Fidelity on 180-gram vinyl in faithfully replicated LP packaging.
Bassist Mike Mills told us that over the decades R.E.M. worked hard to remain at the top of their game as songwriters: "One of the things I've always felt we do really well, that is also one of the hardest things to do in rock n' roll, is to write good songs, and to write a lot of them over a period of years. Y'know, anybody can come up with one good record's worth of songs -- well, not anybody, but (laughs) it's not so hard to come up with one good record's worth -- but to keep it up over years of time, it feels pretty good to look back and go, 'Y'know, that is one thing we can do.'"
