Muse has unleashed "Madness," the first official single from the British trio's upcoming album, The 2nd Law. The dance-pop track arrived at radio stations on Monday (August 20th), with frontman Matt Bellamy telling a Los Angeles station, "I wrote that song having a fight with my girlfriend. Nothing particularly over the top but just having one of those moments where she leaves you for the day to think about it. I rarely write songs that cathartic. All I had was a drum machine and a synthesizer so I just put this very minimal thing together."
Bellamy added, "I wasn't quite sure it would work with the band but when we started the album I showed it to Dom (Howard, drums) and Chris (Wolstenholme, bass) and they loved it . . . it's a real surprise song for this album. It's probably my favorite song that I've ever written."
Bellamy's girlfriend is actress Kate Hudson. The couple have a baby son together named Bingham, whose heartbeat can also be heard on the record.
The 2nd Law is Muse's sixth studio effort and arrives on October 2nd. Another cut from the album, "Survival," was the official theme of the recently completed 2012 summer Olympics.
