Godsmack kicked off the Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival tour with Shinedown, Staind and others on Friday (August 17th) in Bonner Springs, Kansas, with singer Sully Erna starting his first major tour since canceling a European run several weeks ago over throat issues. Erna told us just as the trek got underway that he's fine now, and explained what happened: "It was actually a bit of an infection that I had in the back of my throat, and I was exhausted, I hadn't slept in three days when we got to Europe, and it was just a combination of being like really tired, singing exhausted and just pushed myself a little too hard. And I injured it enough that I had to kind of shut it down, but it wasn't like a permanent injury or something like that. It was the first and only time it's ever happened in my career, and I don't expect this to become a habit."
Also on the Uproar bill are Papa Roach, Adelitas Way, P.O.D., Deuce, Redlight King and others. The tour pulls into Grand Rapids, Michigan on Tuesday (August 21st).
Godsmack will also be one of the headliners on the ShipRocked 2012 cruise this year, taking off from Fort Lauderdale, Florida in late November for five days.
