Out now from Rob Zombie is Mondo Sex Head, a collection of remixes of various Zombie tracks by artists like Korn's Jonathan Davis, Chino Moreno of Deftones, Photek, the Bloody Beatroots, Drumcorps and others on the electronic dance music scene. Each track was hand-selected by Zombie, who road-tested many of the songs by listening to them while driving around Los Angeles.
Although Zombie did some remix albums years ago, he told us why he decided to come back to the format: "Recently, you know, the DJ culture has been exploding so big in this country and I kept hearing, 'Oh, I went to see so-and-so and they played your song within the show and...' That kind of got me thinking about it and that's what brought it back up. And the last remix record, I think, at that point, 10 years ago, there was more like an industrial-techno vibe going on in the world, but this one's not so much that style, and that was what inspired making another one."
Zombie has also been working on his first new album since 2010's Hellbilly Deluxe 2. The new, yet-to-be-titled CD is set for a late 2012 release.
His Twins Of Evil co-headlining tour with Marilyn Manson begins on October 1st in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Zombie's sixth film as a writer and director, The Lords Of Salem, will premiere this September at the Toronto International Film Festival as part of the event's "Midnight Madness" series of genre films.
The movie, about a 300-year-old coven of witches seeking revenge on the modern-day town of Salem, marks Zombie's first collaboration with the producers of the Paranormal Activity franchise and his first live-action film since 2009's Halloween 2. The film does not yet have a release date.
