Serj Tankian's third solo album, Harakiri, debuted at Number 29 on the Billboard album chart on Wednesday (July 18th), selling 12,000 copies in its first week of release. That's a slightly better showing that Tankian's last solo effort, 2010's Imperfect Harmonies, which sold 10,000 copies to enter at Number 35. Tankian's first solo disc, 2007's Elect The Dead, sold 66,000 copies in its first week to debut at Number Four. Tankian's latest was upstaged by the new one from P.O.D., called Murdered Love, which sold 16,000 copies to arrive at Number 17.
Meanwhile, Tankian announced on Wednesday that he will head out on a solo tour this fall, beginning on September 19th in Vancouver, Canada.
Tankian will again be touring with his backing band, The FCC. He told us a while back that playing with his "other" band is a blast: "The guys from the FCC are amazing to work with, really amazing musicians that, every day that I'm onstage with them, I feel like there's progress, and stuff that they do and stuff that I do that just make what we each do as artists better. It's been great. And really nice guys, sweet guys to be on tour with as well, and that's really important."
Prior to that, Tankian will regroup with his original band, System Of A Down, for two weeks of East Coast dates with Deftones, beginning on August 2nd in Philadelphia.
System, which has not released new music since 2005, has no plans to record at the moment.
