Foster The People frontman Mark Foster has revealed that Snoop Dogg, of all people, convinced him to stop smoking marijuana. In a new interview with Q magazine, Foster explained, "The one time I got starstruck was when I met Snoop Dogg. I gave him a hug and said, 'I love you, man.' It was cool 'cos I'd just stopped smoking weed three days before. I told Snoop, 'I quit smoking but I'd have one with you if I had the chance.' He said 'Y'know what, brother: sometimes you gotta slow down and focus on your s***.' From the godfather of marijuana smoking! That was good enough for me."
Snoop has been known throughout his career as a poster boy for smoking weed, and even once teamed up with Willie Nelson to record a musical tribute to pot.
The rap superstar was arrested just last month in Norway for marijuana possession.
Foster The People's first disc, Torches, debuted in May 2011 at Number Eight on the Billboard album chart. The first single, "Pumped Up Kicks," was a Top Five track at Modern Rock radio. The latest single from Torches is "Houdini."
Mark Foster told us that he wants to start working on the band's second CD as soon as they are done touring: "You know, it's kind of hard to write when we're on tour. There's so many distractions and you're playing every night and when we have a day off, a lot of times, we want to sleep or just get away from music. It takes a lot of discipline to write on tour, and you know, I find myself, when I'm in the studio, I kind of fall into like this creative momentum. So I'm really looking forward to just having free time to just focus on writing."
Foster The People wraps up its headlining U.S. tour this weekend, playing Phoenix on Friday (July 6th) and Las Vegas on Saturday (July 7th). The group will head to Europe and Japan later this summer.
