Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett announced on Wednesday (June 20th) that his first book, titled Too Much Horror Business -- The Kirk Hammett Collection, will be published this October. The book will document Hammett's love of the horror genre as well as his massive collection of horror memorabilia. The 228-page tome will be published as a hardcover coffee table book featuring over 300 full color images from Hammett's private collection, written notes by him on many of the items displayed, and three extensive interviews with Hammett about his fascination with collecting and horror. Hammett said, "This is my gift to all the other horror nerds out there who are just like me. It's been made with great love for all the many characters and movies which guided me through childhood, into adulthood and which still keep me on track today."Hammett told us a while back that he shared his passion for horror with his good friend, the late, legendary Johnny Ramone: "You know, we both collected horror movie posters and he was the guy I called whenever I got a new horror movie poster, you know. It was like, 'Hey, Johnny, check it out, man, I got this new Frankenstein poster and you gotta see it!' Or he'd call me and say, you know, 'Kirk, should I buy this Dracula poster? It's a bit expensive.' And I'd say, 'Sure! You gotta, man!'" A preview of the book will be offered this Saturday and Sunday (June 23rd and 24th) at Metallica's Orion Music + More festival in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where a tent called "Kirk's Crypt" will offer fans a glimpse into his collection. The exhibit will feature guest appearances from Hammett himself, Exorcist star Linda Blair and monster effects creators over the festival's two days.Hammett also plans to launch his own series of collectibles, mostly toys, through his Kirk Von Hammett line. The first of the limited edition items will go on sale October 1st.
