Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard's wife, actress and She & Him singer Zooey Deschanel, officially filed for divorce on December 27th, with the papers filed at Los Angeles County Superior Court stating "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. Gibbard and Deschanel, who were married for two years, separated on October 31st and announced that they were parting the following day (November 1st).
Spin.com described the divorce papers as "uncontroversial," adding that they confirmed reports that there was no third party -- in other words, an extramarital affair -- involved in the couple's breakup.
The 35-year-old Gibbard and 31-year-old Deschanel, who stars in the sitcom The New Girl, were married in September 2009.
Gibbard told Jam! Showbiz that several tracks on the latest Death Cab album, Codes And Keys, were inspired by Deschanel, and he also credited the relationship with helping him to get sober three years ago.
