The self-titled debut album from new rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures landed outside the Top 10 on last Wednesday's (November 25th) Billboard album chart, selling just under 70,000 copies in its first week of release to debut at Number 12. The band, which consists of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl on drums, Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones and Queens Of The Stone Age singer/guitarist Josh Homme,
made its live debut in August after months of rumors, with the trio
keeping a veil of secrecy over the album itself until not long before
its release.
Grohl was the driving force behind the project and recently told Spinner.com
that part of the impetus for it was his desire to get back behind the
drums after 13 years fronting Foo Fighters. He said, "I'm a drummer . .
. I want a band to play the drums in. But I'm not just gonna go eke out
with some band that doesn't matter, I wanna do something that's gonna
make people's heads spin. And that's why I'm in a band with Josh and
John."
Foo Fighters, who recently issued a greatest
hits set, began a hiatus in the fall of 2008 that's likely to last well
into 2010 as Grohl continues to tour with Them Crooked Vultures.
Speaking of greatest hits, the new best-of collection from Fall Out Boy, Believers Never Die, did not exactly set the chart on fire, selling just 11,000 copies to debut at Number 68.
In other chart news, the soundtrack to the new Twilight movie, New Moon, has been certified platinum for sales of more than one million copies. The set features music from Death Cab For Cutie, Thom Yorke, Muse, the Killers and more.
