Green Day is part of a new list of artists performing at the 2009 American Music Awards, according to a press release. Also confirmed to now perform at the event are Rihanna, Shakira, Mary J. Blige and Keith Urban, joining the previously announced Lady Gaga, Eminem, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry and Adam Lambert.
More performers and presenters will be unveiled before the show, which
airs live on ABC-TV from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on November
22nd at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Green Day is competing against Kings Of Leon and Shinedown for the Favorite Alternative Artist award.
Kings
Of Leon lead rock artists at this year's event with four nominations,
including Artist of the Year, Favorite Band, Duo or Group, and the
T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist prize.
Artists
will be honored in the categories of Pop/Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop,
Soul/R&B, Alternative, Adult Contemporary, Latin and Contemporary
Inspirational. Other major nominees this year include Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson, Eminem, Beyonce and T.I.
