Creed's first album in eight years, Full Circle, debuted at Number Two on the Billboard
album chart on Wednesday (November 4th), selling 110,000 copies in its
first week of release. It came in a distant second behind this week's
chart-topper, Michael Jackson's This Is It, which moved 373,000 copies. The new record's showing is also a far cry from the last Creed effort, Weathered, which moved an enormous 887,000 copies in its first week of release.
Debuting out of the Top 10 was Jack Johnson's live En Concert, which landed at Number 11 with 39,000 copies sold, while Wolfmother's sophomore effort, Cosmic Egg, moved 28,000 copies to enter at Number 16. Meanwhile, Atreyu's fifth album, Congregation Of The Damned, arrived at Number 18 with 26,000 copies sold.
Congregation has a different sound from the previous Atreyu record, Lead Sails Paper Anchor, and singer Alex Varkatzas told us that the band likes to keep their music unpredictable: "Even
when we first started, we never wanted to be pigeonholed, and what you
think we're gonna do, we don't really like to do. We just like to keep
it fresh, and I think, Lead Sails, maybe people thought one
thing -- we just did whatever we wanted, each song has its own vibe.
And then on this record, I think maybe people think we're gonna do the
same thing, maybe go a melodic, poppy route, and if anything, I think
the record's darker and more aggressive. So we just like to keep people
guessing. It makes it more fun for us."
Atreyu is currently on a co-headlining tour with Hollywood Undead that stops in Chicago on Friday (November 6th).
Creed just completed its first full tour since 2002, which was marked by reports of disastrous ticket sales.
Wolfmother plays Friday night in Philadelphia.
Last week's Number One album, the Death Cab For Cutie-led New Moon soundtrack, slipped to Number Eight this week with 69,000 copies sold.
