PART-TIME AND WEEKENDS

Johnnie is the blunt, gravel-voiced fellow filling in for the full-timers and holding down weekends. He also produced some of the funnier bits floating around the station - every time you hear that little sing-song "How much for that CraigsList whore?", you're hearing Johnnie.

My top 5 movies that feature a radio DJ throughout

Posted 2/2/2010 9:09:00 AM
I was watching Stand By Me in a hung-over stupor the other day before work and it inspired me to compose this list of "My top 5 movies that feature a radio DJ throughout". Kind of a niche category but hey...who doesn't love lists?

5. "The Warriors" - The buttery voice of Lynne Thigpen as "DJ" in this late 70's street gang fick is prominently featured in this now classic "hip hop" movie. She provides the gang members or "boppers" with info and news updates various street and gang beef happenings all in a super cool, covert, almost code like delivery.

4. "Do The Right Thing" - A cracked out Samuel L. Jackson as Mister Señor Love Daddy...not to mention "Radio Raheem" and his boom box constantly blaring Public Enemy. FIGHT THE POWER!

3."Stand By Me" - Bob Cormier was the super cheesy ass top 40 50's era DJ featured in ...

Sick Puppies chillin' w/ my son

Posted 1/2/2010 10:58:00 AM
My son's aunt (read: baby mama's sister) has been a GIANT Sick Puppies fan since day one, and my son being quite like his father (as a previous post obviously points out) was more than happy to get in a picture w/ Emma and the rest of the band.

First Thursday of every month

Posted 12/3/2009 5:32:00 PM
According to someone I know there is a Facebook group for St. Louis skateboarders who are over 30. Someone had to tell me this because the last thing I need is a damn Facebook page. I'm already easy enough to find when I'm on the radio...i don't need to be e-stalked on Facebook too. Turns out these "old" guys get together one night a month and skate w/ their old asses.
My friend Chad, who owns Rampriders skatepark, decided to throw us old dudes a bone! The 1st Thursday of every month is "old guy night". All skateboarders over 30 get in for FREE!!!! All you need is a board, be 30 or older, and a helmet. Don't have one? It's cool you can rent one @ the park.
Speaking of free stuff on Thursdays...all female skateboarders get in FREE EVERY THURSDAY!!!!!!! To sum it up....RampRiders Free old guy night every ...

Sneak of the Week "forced offspring shoe dork" edition

Posted 11/15/2009 2:27:00 PM
I took my son to get some new skate shoes awhile back and he choose a pair of black and white DC's that he still loves so much that he doesn't wanna skate 'em! On that trip I noticed that they had these particular shoes in both of our sizes...which is kinda rare.Being the giant shoe-whore-dork that I am I was stoked that I could get us matching Vans!!! But he couldn't have cared less. Oh well. I figured since I was KINDA forcing the shoes on him he could at least choose what color laces he wanted in 'em. He obviously went with green.

BMX Dudes and BBQ

Posted 10/15/2009 2:55:00 PM
As a skateboarder from the days of olde tymes I'm not supposed to like BMX dudes. It's a cats and dogs thing I guess. But that's Old School....and I'm all about the love these days ;-) Espcially since I've had a few drunken incidents w/ the BMX dudes from the Belle Vega$ area and I learned a few things about them and their kind. One, they LOVE vintage metal. Two, they consume mass quantities of cheap beer among other things. Three, they were some of the most stylish, heckling-est, dirtiest bunch of dudes I have seen in my East Side adventures. For those reasons...I really like those guys.

Since my friends at Ramp Riders and the rest of the BMX community don't have an offical "BMX'ing Member of the Media" to represent them, I do what I can to help 'em out. Info on their benefit is listed below. Any one old enough to remember ...
